36 Exposures Photowalk

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera”
The first time I met Bob was on the Queens Road photo walk, which also happened to be my first photowalk with “Joburg Photowalkers”. He was running around with a Sony A7ii and a Pentax film camera, which is something I never expected to see in 2019. Having learned photography on film cameras this immediately sparked my interest. From that day Bob became a friend of mine and on the 11th January 2020 he arranged the 36 Exposures Photowalk through Melville where every photographer was only allowed film cameras and 1 roll of film. These images were taken on a Nikon F3, which was my dad’s camera, that has subsequently been handed down to me.
Drakensberg

“I took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees”
There is nothing quite like nature to help ground you and bring perspective to moments in your life. I spent the weekend in the beautiful Drakensburg mountains hiking and testing my photographic abilities. I highly recommend a trip here but would definitely go for more than 2 days next time as there are so many trails I would have liked to explore.
JHB Photowalk

The Photowalk was organised by the Instagaram group “jozigrams” and meandered through the streets of Johannesburg CBD ending up at Ghandi Square. It was an amazing experience and great to meet fellow South Africans with a shared passion of photography and just being creative.
